Winter is still very much alive in the mountains (ish... talk about a dry year, but we know "Miracle March" is coming...also. Is it a miracle anymore or predictable at this point?). Either way at Gear Hut, we’re starting the behind-the-scenes transition that keeps the shop running smoothly year round.

That means our winter consignment intake season is quickly coming to a close!
Pre-Published Winter Consignment Intake Season: Oct 1 – Feb 13
Our winter consignment season for all things resort recreation runs from October 1 through February 13. That gives folks a solid five months to bring in gear they want to sell. These dates were published at the beginning of the season, on our socials, here on the website, in the shop windows and on our whiteboard... so y'all knew it was coming!
We firmly close winter consignment intake on February 13 as we shift gears for: your pre-sale pick ups if you don't want your items discounted, our End-of-Season Sale, your final End-of-Season Pick Up window, physically clearing space in the shop and running inventory. All prep for summer intake starting April 1
After February 13, we will still accept winter gear…but as DONATION ONLY.
Why donation only? If these winter items don’t sell before the seasonal changeover, the time, space, and effort isn’t wasted short term for you to pick them up 2 weeks later; those items can continue to be sold as Gear Hut inventory next winter after being pulled for storage on our timeline. Donations help us keep great gear circulating at low costs without overloading the shop during our slower winter shopping months... and help keep our doors open in rougher economic times.
The "Winter Season" EXCEPTIONS (Accepted Year-Round)

Some winter items are always in demand and take up very little space, so we’ll continue to accept these on consignment after Feb 13:
Modern nordic / NNN XC gear
Mountaineering gear: crampons, axes, ice tools, etc.
Snowshoes
Avy probes, beacons, & shovels
These are high-utility, low-square-footage items that move consistently all year long.

Why Timing Matters
About 85% of our winter inventory sells in November, December, and January when folks are gearing up to use their new equipment all season long.
The remaining 15% in February/March comes from a limited number of folks planning for impromptu powder days, the ones who dropped their poles, or other last-minute needs... but not enough to continue to fill the shop to the brim.
As winter shopping slows, we’re careful not to bulk up the store with items that are unlikely to sell. That’s why we ALWAYS recommend getting your gear in EARLY season
Looking Ahead at Summer Consignment (Starting April 1)
This timing advice is especially important as we approach summer!

Paddling & Bike Consignment Intake: April 1 through mid-August (end date TBD)
If you’re planning to sell a boat or a bike through us... Bring it in April or May! Using it all season and waiting until August drastically lowers its chances of selling. By then, most folks have already bought what they need for the season.
Thanks for helping us keep Gear Hut flowing smoothly from season to season and for being respectful to our team as they uphold our processes and dates! If you ever have questions about timing, item eligibility, or what’s selling best, just ask! We want to keep usable gear in circulation just as much as you, but have to also stick to a solid plan to make sure business makes sense! 8 years in, these dates and timing are intentionally selected based off of solid data to serve us and you best!
