Getting Your Winter Ski Gear Ready for Consignment

Winter is just around the corner (for real, less than one month from now - we open up winter consignment intake!). That means it's time to dust off our skis, snowboards, and winter gear for the upcoming season. Whether you're an avid skier ready to sell last year's set up or a casual snow lover who has an extra jacket you don't need, preparing your winter gear for consignment is a crucial step in ensuring you pass out "quality control" AND get the most value out of your items. Winter consignment intake begins: OCTOBER 13th! We will not accept ski specific gear BEFORE this date.

Why Prepare Your Gear for Consignment?

Consignment is a fantastic way to give your gear a second life while also earning a little extra cash/store credit once your items sell. Plus, knowing that someone else will benefit from your well-cared-for equipment can bring a sense of fulfillment, passing along #RecycledAdventures. Take some time to clean and check your gear to ensure it's in top condition, worthy of shelf space at Gear Hut.

Cleaning Your Ski Gear

Skis and Snowboards: MUST be 2014 or NEWER for consignment. No core shots, delaminated top sheets or epoxy repairs will be accepted.

  • Wipe down your skis or snowboard with a damp cloth to remove any dirt, dust, or grime.

  • Inspect the edges for any signs of rust or damage.

  • Ensure the bottoms aren't dried out - put a light storage wax on them.

Boots and Bindings: If sole toes or heels are too worn, they will not pass QC and we will suggest our ski recycling program.

  • Clean the exterior of your boots with a mild detergent and a soft brush.

  • Check the bindings for any signs of wear or loose screws.

  • Dump 'em and disinfect! We will NOT TAKE a mouse poop filled boot!

Gear Inspection

Helmet: Most helmets will be priced UNDER $25.

  • Inspect your helmet for any cracks or damage.

  • Check the straps and buckles to ensure they are functioning correctly.

Mountain-Ready Apparel

Jackets and Pants:

  • Wash your ski jacket and pants following the manufacturer's instructions.

  • All zippers should function.

Baselayers, Fleeces, General Winter Apparel:

  • Wash your ski jacket and pants following the manufacturer's instructions.

  • All zippers should function.

  • Apparel shouldn't have stains, rips or major pilling.

Consignment and Outdoor Recreation

Gear Hut offers a space to sell your gently used equipment, making it accessible to others who share your passion for outdoor recreation. By preparing your gear for consignment, you contribute to sustainable practices within the outdoor community while also gaining financial benefits. The reality is that the outdoor recreation industry is costly. Our goal at the shop is to make accessing mountain sports more affordable, by being a marketplace for the community to sell "last years" gear.

Consignment is not only a practical choice, but also a way to be part of a larger community that values access to outdoor recreation and sustainability. Plus, it means you don't have to deal with any "is this still available" messages on Facebook.

Take the time to clean, inspect, and prepare your winter gear for consignment! We are not afraid to turn items away! Space on the racks is competitive, and we will be prioritizing quality, stylish, and cared for gear & apparel.

Remember: Recycle, Reuse, and Renew your winter gear for a sustainable outdoor experience!
