Our Spring & Summer Consignment Season officially OPENS on April 1, and we’re working hard to transition the shop, getting ready to help your summer gear find its next adventure in Reno-Tahoe....here are some ways you can start prepping at home for a seamless drop off with us!
From April 1 through August 29, we’re accepting warm-weather gear with one clear goal in mind: get it out of storage and back into action this season. Whether it’s a bike that’s been hanging in the garage or a boat ready for the Truckee, APRIL/MAY is the time to bring it in.
Space Fills Fast: Boats & Mountain Bike Consignment Space Is First Come, First Dibs

Storage and display space for boats and bikes is limited, and once we’re full, we’re full... and it's a "one in, one out" situation.
That means it’s simple: First come, first dibs on space. If consigning is on your to-do list for the year, don’t wait until peak season. Early drop-offs mean better visibility, better timing, and a stronger chance of selling while demand is high... aka they can use it ALL season long, on and around Lake Tahoe.
How We Price Bikes (and Why It Matters)
Pricing used bikes in today’s market takes more than guesswork and vibes... reality check - it's unfortunately not a seller's market right now. In full transparency- if you're trying to make full dollar on your bike, try marketplace first.
Gear Hut is here as Reno's premier consignment shop specializing in rehoming your mountain gear... but consignment means that we take a cut for listing and handling the sale for you, it being available for the public to view 6 days a week and for online promotion.

We use Bicycle Blue Book as a foundational guide to determine fair market value. From there, we adjust based on:
Brand and model demand
Frame/wheel size popularity
Component upgrades (brakes/droppers/etc)
Overall condition/age/cleanliness
Current seasonal demand
Some features and sizes move fast. Others sit (aka those older 26"). The truth: A well-priced bike sells. An overpriced bike gets stale.
Our goal isn’t to have your bike sit on the sales floor all summer, gathering dust (like it currently is doing in your garage), it’s to get it rolling under a new rider as soon as possible. The more bikes we move is more folks out and on the trails this summer, our priority is outfitting Reno's bike community affordably and keeping as many usable bikes out there.
During our Spring/Summer Consignment Season, at any single moment we can hold up to:
FOURTEEN analog mountain & gravel/backpacking bikes
ONE E-MTB
TWO bike trailers
EIGHT-TEN bike racks (epending on style) NOTE: Bikes MUST BE operational - brakes work, shifts smooth, no flats, has pedals, and should be CLEAN! Don't bring us your bike post ride. As always, we only accept mountain bikes and gravel bikes (bikepacking compatible) from reputable brands.
Boats Depreciate Quickly: Price Smart
Boats valuation is a little different. They depreciate FAST once used and the used market shifts quickly within the season (AKA... if you use your WW boat for the surge and then sell it at the end of summer... its value DROPS. But if you bring it in April 1, users get to play on snowmelt for a month and you can sell it for more).

If you’re wondering what your boat is worth, take a look at Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist and other local listings. But here’s the key factor: don’t just look at what’s listed. Look at what’s realistically priced to sell. Unsold inventory tells you where the market ceiling is.
Competitive pricing early in the season gives your boat the best chance to move while buyers are actively shopping. You can always send us a photo (info@gearhutreno.com), the model and length of your boat and we can do our best to give you a quote of what we would realistically price it for.
At any single moment, the shop can hold:
SIX Stand Up Paddleboards
TWO WW/Playboats
TWO Double Kayaks/Canoe/Sea-Kayaks (anything 14+ ft)
FOUR Single Kayaks
NOTE: Boats must be clean! Spiderweb, mud and leaf free!
Our Philosophy: Balance Value and Velocity for mountain bikes and kayaks
When pricing consignment at Gear Hut, we work to strike a balance between:
Getting you fair value
Pricing for today’s real market
Selling within the season
Getting folks outside affordably and breaking down the barriers of access
Seasonal gear has a short selling spurt. We simply don’t have the ability to hold onto high-priced, stale inventory that misses its moment... in which no-body wins, we don't free up space for the next item, you don't make money, our community of shoppers can't afford getting out.
The 90-Day Commitment

When you consign with us, you’re agreeing to keep your gear listed for:
90 days OR through Sept 27 (end of season); whichever comes first if you're dropping off later in the summer.
This allows us to market and promote your item, accounts for the time and effort of our team to research and manually enter your item and enough time for eyes to get on your gear. You should NOT be selling your item on any other platform during this time; items collected before the consignment term is up are subject to a 5% early pick up fee.
Ready to Bring It In?
April 1 is RIGHT around the corner. Give us a call for a quote, hose down the boat, give the bike a wash. If you’ve got gear that deserves a second life this season, bring it in early! Reminder that the early consignor is more likely to have success selling through us!
Let’s get your gear out of storage and back into action!
